Scientists discover the secret behind the stability of carbon isotopes

https://ift.tt/eA8V8J An international research collaboration has provided experimental and theoretical evidence for the existence of the magic number of six in carbon isotopes. The researchers experimentally determined the radius of protons in the nuclei of different carbon isotopes. The results were combined with those of calculations and other data analyses, revealing that a proton number of six gave an isotope with high stability; that is, six is a magic number.
