Synaptic communication controls neuronal migration

https://ift.tt/eA8V8J Development of the mammalian neocortex requires the precise migration of billions of neurons. Synapses are structures that allow neurons to communicate with each other. Scientists have now identified a novel role of synapses in neuronal migration during neocortical development. They show that transient synapses are formed between subplate neurons, which function as guidance cells, and newborn neurons. This interaction promotes the proper migration of newborn neurons.
